THE maiden meeting between the new Minister of Education, Dr. Sam Omiyi Egwu and heads of parastatals under the ministry got off on a controversial note last Tuesday (23rd of December), as the minister rejected the briefs sent to him by some of them. Besides scolding the heads of the affected agencies, the minister also gave them up to Monday (29th December) next week to re-submit detailed briefs to his office. |

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) yesterday(11/12/2008) came down hard on the political class for allegedly sponsoring the recent post council poll violence in Jos. National President of the universities' teachers' association, Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie, at a press briefing in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, however lamented the inability of the past government to prosecute the alleged sponsors of the 2001 Jos crisis as a probable reason for renewed violence in the tin city. |

In a bid to sanitise Nigerian universities, the National Universities Commission (NUC), in partnership with Gucci Chis Limited is to commence the NUC Data Base (NUCDB) project across the 94 approved universities in the country. This project is in addition to the N2 billion it had sourced through the Education Trust Fund (ETF) to improve the standard of learning in one university in each of the six geopolitical zones of the country. |
